Eddit: the name of the Green Creek school had been changed to the Red Creek school.

The Green Creek School was an old and mansion in the middle of no-where Kansas that had been converted into a boarding school over a hundred years ago. At anyone time, there were between twenty to thirty boy and girls from the ages of six to eighteen living there.

The Green Creek school has a secret. It is one a small handful of schools around the world where the vampires trained their servants. Special humans unaffected by a vampire’s bite, whom the vampires have been breading for centuries.

It was the wee hours of the morning. Michel was trudging to his room having finished the extra chores he’d been assigned in the kitchen. The extra chores were punishment for starting a fight in the common room. Another boy had been harassing him for several days, and he’d finally had enough. The teachers had quickly stopped the fight. But he’d got the blame for starting the fight since he was the one who through the fist punch.

The path to his dorm room went past the headmaster’s office and it was only by chance that there in time to overhear Master Brock’s voice through the partially open door, “We haven’t had execution for several years. Do you think it’s time to remind the servants what the penalties are for frailer and disobedience?”

Michel didn’t wait to hear more, he had fled as quietly as he could. The snippet of conversation terrified him. He had been the last student to be in trouble, and though he studied hard, he never got very high marks in his school work. Oh, shit! They are talking about me! he thought.

There had only been one other execution in all the years Michel had been in the school. He had been eight years old. All the students had been gathered in the common room but not told why. The headmaster had appeared, dragging a bound and gagged young man. He didn’t know who it was, but from the reactions of the older kids, many of them did. The headmaster told the students that the young man had been lazy and disobedient and had failed in his duties to his master. He had been deemed unworthy to serve them. Then he strangled the boy with his bare hands. He didn’t touch a drop of the boy’s blood; as though it too was unworthy. Then he left, leaving the body lying on the floor.

Michel had had nightmares for weeks.

Now they were going to do it again and he was a failure.

Michel took pride in his heritage of being better than a mere human. He had never questioned his role as a servant and wanted to be worthy to serve his future Master. His worst nightmare was of being disgraced and executed in front of the school and his friends. And now it looked like it was going to come true.

A day and night passes. Michel felt like he was living in a goldfish bowl. He felt the teachers watching him and he started jumping at every little thing. After the third day he couldn’t take the tension any more. The more the thought about what he had heard the more he was sure he was going to die. He decided to run away before they could come for him.

He scrounged up all his money, saved from birthday gifts and odd jobs the school would pay the kids to do, and barrowed as much as he could from his friends without telling them what he needed it for, and at noon the next day when everyone was sleeping he slipped out the back door.

He hitchhiked to the nearest bus station and got on a bus for the nearest city.

Adam rubbed sleep out of his eyes and looked for his other boot; witch somehow hadn’t ended up with its mate when he’d taken them off the morning before. About to give up on the missing boot he heard his phone ring. Great, now he had to find the phone; following the Adam’s Family ring tone he found the little annoying device in his missing boot. How the hell did that get there?

“Is this Adam?” A pleasant male voice on the other end of the phone asked.

“Ya, who is this?” he answered juggling the phone from ear to ear while pulling on the black leather boots and doing up the many silver buckles.

“You don’t know me, but we both know some of the same people.” That was code for ‘I know what you are and I’m one to.’

“Okay, who are you and why you calling me?” Just great he thought; who wants what from me now?

“I’m Brock, the headmaster at the Green Creek School.” The man said.

“So Mister Brock, why are you calling? I don’t have a servant, and I haven’t asked for one yet.” Both irritated and curious he continued, “And how did you get this number?”

“I called your sire; I thought he was in your city. He gave me your number. The reason I call is, it seems I have a runner headed your way. The kid slipped during the day and headed straight for the bus station. The ticket seller remembers him taking the first bus out of town.”

“So you want me find him, then what?”

“Bring him back for execution. It’s a shame really, Michel was a good kid, and it’s totally out of his character for him to have run off like this. I would like to know what made him do it.”

Adam sighed; he didn’t like being the school’s errand boy, but he wasn’t high enough in the pecking order to tell the man to shove off. Furthermore, if his sire had giving Brock his phone number then he thought it was important, and he should do the school this favor. “Fine. What does he look like, other than white hair and cat eyes?”

Adam listened while Brock told him what they knew of Michel’s escape while he redid the long black spikes in his hair that had been flattened while he slept. If the kid hadn’t gotten off somewhere along the line, he should be getting to the bus station in a little over an hour. Adam had to hurry if he wanted to be there before the bus arrived.
